Waterproof Breathables

Note: There is often confusion concerning the terms used for coated fabrics. When we speak of "layers" in waterproof breathables we are talking about the total fabric. Two-layer XALT, for instance, is composed of a top layer (usually Supplex®) and a waterproof/ breathable layer. A three-layer fabric would have an added tricot or mesh on the inside to protect the waterproof/breathable layer. When we say a fabric is 2-ply or 3-ply we are referring to the yarn only. 3-ply Supplex is a heavier, more durable fabric than 2-ply Supplex® because the yarns are beefier.
