One style comes over the horse's knees and hocks, the other ends below. Also includes instructions for leg bandages. Once at the show, you'll be super organized with a grooming apron and tote. STALL CURTAINS
Use sturdy, stiff water resistant fabrics.  Most stall curtains are made from nylon Cordura™. Acrylic canvas or other marine and awning fabrics can also be used. Lettering and appliqués can be made from any sturdy woven fabric. For tieback trim and optional front curtain trim, use nylon or polyester webbing. For binding on the valances and name panel use nylon foldover braid.

Finished Dimensions:
Back curtain-  7’ x 10’

Front curtain next to door-  7’ x 6’

Front door curtains-  7’ x 3’ each (please note that we assume that when hanging these they will overlap the front curtain next to them)

Each side curtain-  7’ x 10’

Under valance-  20” x 10’

Upper valance-  11” x 10’

Name panel-  30” x 28”

The leftover fabric can be used for director chair covers, tack trunk covers, table cloths, carry bags, or hay bags.

SHIPPING BOOTS
We recommend 1000 denier coated nylon Cordura™ for the outer fabric, Fiber Pile synthetic fleece for the inner layer, and polyester foldover braid for the edge binding.

Fitting:  Both styles of shipping boots will fit a 15-16 hand horse. Of course fit can vary depending upon the horse’s leg length and bone. You can lengthen or shorten the boots and add or subtract width at the front edges.

Quantities Needed:
STYLE A (set of four boots) -
1-1/4 YDS of 45”/60” wide EACH of outer fabric and fleece lining
    40” of 2” wide hook-and-loop tape
6-1/4 YDS of 1” wide foldover braid
    thread

STYLE
B (set of four boots) -
1-2/3 YDS of 45”/60” wide EACH of outer fabric and fleece lining
4-3/4 YDS loop side of 2” wide hook-and-loop tape
4-1/4 YDS hook side of 2” wide hook-and-loop tape
7-3/4 YDS 1” wide foldover braid
    thread

HEAD BUMPER
Use real or synthetic leather and thick synthetic fleece for the lining.

Fitting: The head bumper comes in four sizes. Size medium will fit most average size horses. To choose the correct size measure between the horse’s ears and use the chart below.

LEG WRAPS
Controversy exists about whether or not natural or synthetic fibers make the best wraps. The arguments for natural fibers are that they are more absorbent, cooler, and less irritating to the horse’s skin. Synthetic fibers, such as polyester, are said to be more adsorbent (meaning the fibers attract liquid without drawing it into the fiber itself), less expensive, longer-lasting, more washable, and hold color better. With our pattern you can choose whichever you prefer. Directions are given for two kinds of leg wraps-  fleece and quilted. For fleece leg wraps use lighter weight fleece. For quilted leg wraps we suggest a medium weight cotton or cotton blend fabric for the outer layer, a lightweight quilt batting or thin foam for the middle layer, and terry cloth for the lining.

Quantities Needed:
FLEECE
LEG WRAPS (PER PAIR) -

1-2/3 YDS of 45” fleece or 1 YD of 60” fleece FOR
ALL SIZES
    thread
QUILTED
LEG WRAPS (PER PAIR)-
7/8 YD of 45” wide for EACH LAYER or 1/2 YD of 60” wide for EACH LAYER
5-1/2 YDS extra wide double fold bias tape
    thread

LEG BANDAGES
The same arguments for natural and synthetic fabrics apply as for leg wraps.  Polo bandages should be made out of thick, fleecy, stretchy knit materials. Old blankets or sweatshirt material can be used. Polyester fleece fabric such as Polartec™ is an excellent choice. For standing bandages us non-stretch synthetic material. Flannel is another good bandage fabric. Use non-raveling fabric if possible.

Leg bandages are usually 4” wide with extra-wide bandages being 6” wide. Standard lengths range from 2-1/2 YDS to 5-1/2 YDS with 3 YDS being the most common. Choose a bandage length and buy that length fabric. Then decide what width bandage you need, remembering that you do not have to have exactly 4” or 6” wide bandages. Try to get as many bandages as possible from the yardage. For example, if you want to make 3 YD long bandages out of 45” wide fabric, you can make 12 bandages each 3-3/4” wide or 11 bandages each 4” wide or 8 bandages each 5 5/8” wide from a 3 YD length of fabric. For EACH BANDAGE you will need 5” of 1” wide hook-and-loop tape and of course you will need thread.

GROOMING TOTE BAG
We recommend making the tote bag from heavier weight coated nylon Cordura™, but other sturdy fabrics can be used such as thick canvas.  We recommend twill tape or grosgrain ribbon for the edge bindings, because heavier materials such as webbing will be too thick to sew through at the side seams.

Quantities Needed:
1 YD of 45” wide fabric or 7/8 YD of 60” wide fabric
2-1/2 YDS 1” wide twill tape
1-3/8 YDS 2” wide twill tape
2-1/8 YDS 1” wide webbing
thread

GROOMING APRON
Make the apron from sturdy fabrics such as cotton duck or denim.

Quantities Needed:
1-1/2 YDS of 45” wide fabric or 1-1/8 YDS of 60” fabric
2 YDS extra wide double fold bias tape
strap adjuster (also called Ladder Lock buckle)
thread
