Zipper Dictionary
1-Way Separating: Zipper comes completely apart (like a jacket
front) and has one pull on it.
2-Way Separating: Zipper comes completely apart with two pulls on it
(one zips up from the bottom).
Non-Separating: Only one end of the zipper can come apart (like
a fly zipper).
Double Pull: The zipper pull has tabs on both sides for sleeping bags,
tents and reversible garments.
Reversible (Flip over) Pull: The zipper pull has
a single tabs which flips over the crown of the pull for reversible garments or
zip-in linings.
Zipper Tape: Continuous zipper sold by the foot. Cannot be
used in separating applications (at least one end must stay together).
Particularly useful for tents, pockets, luggage, packs and pillow cases.
Pocket Zippers: Specialized 7" long, #2.5 coil zippers that are
fastened together permanently at both ends. Useful for pockets although
non-separating zippers or zipper tape may also be used.
Locking Pulls: Will not slide on the zipper unless the pull tab
is grasped. Good for fly zippers as well as some garment pockets and neck
zippers.
Non-Locking Pulls: Do not have a locking pin inside and will
slide without grabbing the pull tab. Used for tents, packs, most luggage,
and many pockets.

Zippers can
be divided into 3 major parts: tape, teeth (elements) and slider.
SLIDER
The slider joins or separates the Teeth (elements) when the zipper is
opened or closed. Various types of sliders are available depending on
use.
TEETH (Elements)
The teeth (also known as elements) are the parts on each side of a
zipper that mesh, or engage, with each other when passed through the
slider.
TAPE
The tape is manufactured exclusively for zippers. It is usually made of
polyester, or synthetic fiber tape.

Water Repellent Zipper
Care Information (YKK Aquaguard®)
Application
Do Not use the curve application since slider may cut the
tape.
Avoid applications where PU zippers will come into contact with "vinyl,"
such as PVC or PU.Home Ironing
Do Not Iron. It may flatten the embossed
film and cause the film to melt.
Washing
Close the zipper when you wash it in order to avoid damages to the film.
Do Not tumble dry.
Dry Cleaning
A petroleum based solvent is recommended. Before dry cleaning, make sure
the zipper is completely closed.
UV Resistance
Shiny Finish - UV may cause the PU film color to change from clear to
light yellow. This will also change the zipper color since the film is
laminated over the tapes. Minimal degradation occurs but Does Not
effect performance of the film.
