FITTING
The WOMEN’S PANTS are very close fitting through the hips and thighs. We include some extra seam allowance as shown below in case you need a little “wiggle room” when fitting. Keep in mind that with a side zipper, if you have to let out the side seams between the waist and the hips you will have to re-sew the zipper. The traditional and low rise versions with darted backs have two piece waistbands so that you can adjust the center back seam. The elastic back version has a one piece waistband because the back fitting is done with the elastic.
The girl’s pants are not as close fitting and have 1/2" side seam allowances below the zipper extensions.
Fitting pants can be somewhat of an art, so please consult a fitting book (Palmer/Pletsch’s Pants for Real People is a good one) or online resources if you need help. The extra seam allowances in the women’s pants allow you to do some fitting as you sew, but there are many other fitting adjustments that can be made before and after cutting out which we do not cover. For all pants check length and adjust pattern pieces BEFORE cutting out.
The bottom edge of the waistband of the women’s traditional rise pants and the girls’ pants sits at the natural waist. The women’s low rise pants sit 2 1/2" lower.
